The only change that may be noticeable is the difficulty spike in Conquest, although, I don't know how easy it was before, as the change came out after I hit 85. Even now, having been max level for a couple months, I haven't really experienced any of the issues that veterans of the game complain about, hell, some of the changes I actually appreciate (ex. But again, it can be done free to play, just a matter of patience, and understanding that this game isn't something you can beat in a month or 2. Even then, I had decided to put in some $5 and $10 purchases for the Ability Material Packs, as those are really, and I mean REALLY helpful in early/mid game. I didn't really grasp what the game was like for a month or two, so it took me longer than it could have to reach max level, but it certainly is an obtainable goal without spending $100. I'd say if you wanted to start off now, you definitely could. I started in late 2020 (November or December), and I've had a lot of enjoyment with the game.
